Collage on Canvas- UPDATING
In Spring 2012, at the south beach of Porcupine Mountains State Park in Michigan, I witnessed tens of thousands of monarch butterflies flying directly into the waves of Lake Superior. In desperation, I ran back and forth across the beach in a hopeless quest to stop these misguided flights. From this incident I collected the bodies strewn across the sands. I have saved them all these years, and have used some of the wings of a migration set off course.
The following year was a record low for monarch migration.
